MacManager

Using MacManager and the student servers

The Student computers at Lewis are set up with MacManager to provide both security and a file management system providing students with a place to save their work and access it from any computer on campus.

Student Login:

All students are assigned a user name and password at the beginning of the year. They need to memorize and keep them confidential as they will need to use them every time they log into a computer at school.

Saving Work:

Each grade has its own server on which students will save their work. They can access this server from any computer on campus including the iBooks. They can retrieve their saved work from any computer as well. This will enable them to begin work in your classroom and finish it in the library for example.

Logout:

Students must logout when they are finished working at their computer, otherwise someone else will be using their account.

Deleting Work:

Students can delete their unwanted files by:

  1. Clicking on the folder with their user name on it.
  2. Pulling down the "File" menu and choose "delete."
  3. Select the file(s) to be deleted and delete.

Can't find Server:

On Student stations:

- If students are logging in and it doesn't connect to their account,
or

- If you turn on the student computer and it never gets to the login screen,

or

- If students log out and the computer doesn't go back to the login screen

... it is having a problems finding the Mac Manager server. The server probably needs to be re-booted.

Call or email Tim, he can reboot the server and it should be back to normal in a few minutes.
