No need to take your hands off the keyboard
Using your mouse to pull down file menus to select commands works great for some people, others prefer to keep their hands on the keyboard and use key commands. Below are many of the common key commands. "Apple" refers to the apple key. Hold down the apple/command key as you press the function key.

on New Creates a new document Quit Quits the current application Close Closes the active window Open Allows you to open an previously saved
file Print Allows you to print a document Underline Underscores selected
text Center Bold Make selected text bold Italic Makes selected text
italicized Undo Undoes previous deletes or
