Keyboarding scoring guide
Below are the guidelines followed in assessment of student progress in keyboarding/touch typing.
A Student knows keys, is using proper finger technique, rarely looks at hands, fingers resting on home keys, sits up straight with shoulders and arms relaxed, effort required to keyboard properly is clearly evident.
B Student is trying to use proper finger technique, knows most keys, often looks at hands, fingers sometimes resting on home keys, has correct posture, effort required to keyboard properly is usually evident.
C Student making some attempt to learn keys, occasionally tries using proper finger technique, frequently looks at hands, fingers usually not resting on home keys, sometimes uses “hunt and peck” method, posture usually OK, average effort.
D Student having difficulty learning keys, often not using proper finger technique, frequently looks at hands, fingers not resting on home keys, frequently uses “hunt and peck” method, posture needs improvement, more effort or focus needed.
F Student does not know keys, is not using proper finger technique, frequently looks at hands, uses “hunt and peck” method, no use of home keys, posture needs improvement, more effort or focus needed, student is frequently off task, rarely makes necessary effort required to keyboard properly, often out of seat, distracts others, not productive.
*Speed and accuracy will come with practice and are not a basis for students grade.
