This year we will be using the following texts:
The Reading/Writing Workshop consists of a two-hour block of time dedicated to an hour of focus on reading strategies and an hour on writing strategies. The workshop structure consists of a standards-based focus each day where a mini-lesson is taught and practiced. Students will spend the majority of their time in the workshop reading and writing.
Within the workshop model students will be covering the characteristics of the following genre:
During all reading and writing activities within these genres, students will be expected to use correct mechanical skills (spelling, punctuation, grammar, editing, etc.) Students will also be occasionally expected to present their written productions orally and will also have to prepare for two portfolio presentations (both at the end of the semesters) in order to pass the class.
The reading and writing pieces required of the students follow the standards published by the State of California.
