Mrs. Hogan's Classroom Rules and Procedures
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Welcome to Lewis Middle School and Room 222! My name is Mrs. Hogan and I will be your child's English teacher this year. I want to take the time to let you know about how my classroom will run during the entire academic year. As I have many creative and exciting activities planned for this year, I do require the cooperation of both students and parents. I hold consistent academic and citizenship rules and expect them to be respected and followed at all times. I have high expectations for all of my students and am confident that they all have the power to be successful.
In order to ensure a successful classroom, I require all students to follow all rules and regulations given by myself. Please note that disciplinary action will be followed consistently and fairly, as rules are meant to assure that all students are allowed to learn in a safe and productive environment. I have four simple classroom rules:
All students will have received personal planners on the first day of school to help remain organized throughout the year. Students will record homework assignments in their planners each day, as homework will be assigned Monday through Friday nights. All work must be turned in on time, as late assignments will either be lowered or given a zero. In addition to daily assignments, students are required to read independently at home for thirty minutes every night. Therefore, your child will always have homework.
Progress reports will be distributed every 6 weeks. In addition, I can also provide personal grade reports that include missing assignments upon request of the parent. It is important for you as a parent to address issues of missing assignments or low grades with your child.
I am confident that along with both parent and student cooperation this year will be successful. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions. My phone number at Lewis is 583-3233, and my email address is slink@sandi.net
If I have any concerns with your child I plan on contacting you at work or at home. Thank you so much for your cooperation and I look forward to a great year!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Hogan (Formerly Link)

Academic grades are based on homework, classwork, tests, projects, essays, and standards-based portfolio projects. It is important that all work be turned in on time. All work turned in must be the student's own work. Honesty is an expectation and a requirement.
Late work will not be accepted. If a student is absent on the day an assignment is due, the work is due the day they return. The grade breakdown is based on a points system focused on the following:
***Students are also required to read 25 books this year (at the 6th grade level or above).

Tardy Policy:
The Lewis Middle School tardy policy is clearly stated in the student planner. I expect all students of room 222 to be lined up before the tardy bell rings to be greeted by the teacher at the door. I expect students to be on time every day.
Attendance:
If a student does have to be absent from school, he/she needs to come to the classroom after school of the day they return to pick up missing work or assignments. Students only have one day of make up for every day of absence. If possible, students should get a phone number from a fellow student to contact about missing work.
Dress Code:
Students are expected to dress appropriately for school every day. See student planner for Lewis's uniform policy.
Behavior Contract:
Students are expected to follow all district and school rules as stated in the Student Planner. In addition, students in Room 222 are expected to:

Discipline and consequences will be enforced fairly and consistently for all students. Student citizenship grades will be lowered when classroom policies have not been followed.
Thank you for the investment in your child's education. I welcome parent help whenever possible. Once again, I am looking forward to a great year!
