Extra Credit:

Students can receive extra credit for exceeding the expected mastery level for Accelerated Math (for a maximum of 10% over the expected level).

Classwork assignments are given daily and are listed on this web page! Work is due the next day in the advanced classes inorder to receive full credit for an assignment. Work may be turned in while posted on the board (about 4 days) for half credit. Students in the regular classes may turn in the assignments while still listed on the board for full credit. Work will not be accepted after this time! Late work due to absence will be accepted for full credit if turned in during a reasonable period of time.

Students must show their work and attempt to complete all problems to receive credit. Keep all assignments until scores have been verified on the "webgrade" program. Assignments must be recorded in the student planner daily. Student papers are returned daily (in most cases) and a "stamp" on the paper indicates the student received credit or the teacher will make a note on the paper in red ink to indicate if there was a problem.

Grades are also available at WebGrade. Students will receive an id and password at school. Parents and students may then choose to personalize their password in the Webgrade program. Weekly email updates are also used to keep parents and students informed!

Homework: Students are required to finish the "in class" assignment at home, if necessary, and work on their Accelerated Math practice each night. Students should have this worksheet in their binder at all times. Parents may check the date on the top of the practice to monitor when it was printed.

Chapter Tests: Retakes will not be given.Group practice tests will also be given to help prepare students for the test. The lowest chapter test score will be dropped each semester.

Accelerated Math is an individualized program where students receive practice on objectives (ex.: adding integers) that match the lesson material. When students have correctly answered 5 out of 6 practice questions, AM will include the objective on a test. By correctly completing 4 out of 5 problems on the test, the student receives credit for mastering the objective. Students should work on their Accelerated Math practice each night for homework and will have an opportunity to test once a week. Students are responsible for checking over their incorrect responses and seeking help for items they do not understand. Students are expected to master 3 objectives each week as posted on the board in the classroom. (Students in the Advanced Pre-Algebra class need to master 4 objectives each week.)

Accelerated Math Exercise: Students and parents may request a special worksheet from the Accelerated Math program called an "exercise". Students can take this worksheet to private tutoring sessions or may use it to help them get caught up if they have fallen behind. Please see the teacher if you would like to receive an exercise.

Additional math help: Many students find math to be very challenging and need more individualized help. Students are welcome to come in to my classroom for help at lunch- just bring your lunch with you! Also, references for private tutors from Patrick Henry High School are are available upon request from our Counseling Office.

Textbook: Students may leave their math book at home. A class set is provided for students to use at school.

Classroom Rules:

1. Be Respectful: Respect the rights, property & safety of self & others.
2. Be Ready: Arrive on time. Be in your seat and quiet when the bell rings.
3. Be Responsible: Come to class with required materials and be prepared to work.

No gum, candy, food, and drinks allowed in the classroom. Bring notebook paper, several pencils, student planner, Accelerated Math practice sheet/scan card, and a backpack daily. The teacher does not loan supplies.

Citizenship Grade:

Each student starts with a new 100 points for each 6 week grading period. Students lose points by: arriving tardy, not having a binder, losing Accelerated Math worksheet or other assignments, not having paper or pencil, yelling out without being called on, eating in class, getting out of seat for inappropriate reasons, reading/writing notes in class, excessive talking, not working on assignments, sleeping or laying head down, vandalizing school property; violating the Lewis dress code; wasting time and all other disruptive behaviors. Students must complete assignments & homework 90% of the time and have good attendance to receive an "E" in citizenship.
