The primary texts that will be used are Message of Ancient Days and Ancient World.  Both are district adoptions.  There will be texts available for use in class.  Any homework given will not require the use of a text, but may be based on information in the text, and/or notes taken in class.

Please note that the order of topics taught may be different than they are listed here, in part because of the availability of resources through the Lewis Library or the district at any given time. The projects assigned to students may increase or decrease in complexity or number depending on time available.

Activities that are directly related to the history curriculum and standards will be limited to time available and are also determined by the responsible behavior of students in the class. Appropriate behavior in the classroom environment, and respect for any supplies being used is expected at all times. Generally, supplies will be provided by the teacher. Students will need to bring loose leaf paper and pencils or pens for taking notes. They will also need an independent reading book.

Grades will be determined by the following: 1 point for each daily in class assignment completed satisfactorily by the end of the period.   1 point for each homework assignment turned in on time.  Homework will be assigned very infrequently, and should take 15 minutes or less to complete.  10 points for each test given at the end of a unit.  Approximately 5 points for each project, depending on its complexity.  (Classwork/homework, tests, and projects are each worth 33% of the overall grade.)

Work will be accepted one day late for half credit. Beyond that, no late work will be accepted.  Please confer with Ms. Maier personally to arrange for any exception to this rule, which may include absences.
