General Expectations
Students are expected to complete their own work neatly and thoroughly according to the written and verbal expectations of the teacher. Assistance from parents, siblings or friends is welcomed, but the actual thinking and work completion must be done by the student. Plagiarism is a serious offense, and is not tolerated.
Please note that I will always try to be conscious of your family's need to spend time together beyond school. However, I also need to balance that with our common interest in providing a challenging and thorough academic program for GATE cluster students.
For current information on homework for either class, please refer to the news section of Parent Connect, check your child's planner, or email me for clarification.
Homework, English
Students will be expected to read for at least 30 minutes nightly. This means Monday through Thursday, and at least one weekend night. Homework will be assigned each day for spelling/vocabulary. Homework for writing will be assigned approximately 2-3 times per week, but will be done mostly in class. If writing is assigned, it will usually require 15 minutes or less to complete. Homework assignments may consist of work due the following day, short, or long-term projects such as book talks. Projects will increase in complexity and time frame as the year progresses. The hardcover text (literature book) stays at home, but the softcover text (Reader's Companion) should be brought to school on Mondays and Thursdays unless otherwise specified.
Homework, history
Homework will be kept to a minimum (2-3 assignments per week). Each assignment will be due the following day unless otherwise specified; for instance, in the case of a long term project. Hardcover textbooks will stay at home, but softcover texts should be in students' binders.
