Homework Club
What is the Homework Club?
The Homework Club is an on-campus, supervised after-school program where students can receive help on homework assignments and projects including research reports, Accelerated Math, and Spanish language. There is no fee charged for Homework Club.
| Location |
Lewis Middle School Library |
| Hours |
2:20 p.m. - 3:20 p.m. every Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday
(Note: Homework Club does not meet during Spring testing, on minimum days, or days when the Library Media Teacher is off campus). |
| Dismissal |
Students will be dismissed at 3:20 p.m. and should be picked up by a parent or guardian. In order to be dismissed early, students must have a dated, signed note from a parent/guardian, including a working telephone number. 6-to-6 students will return to the 6-to-6 program on campus; bus riders will receive a bus pass. |
| Tutoring |
Homework Club does not provide intensive, one-on-one tutoring. Parents of students who are extremely behind in any subject should contact the Counseling office for a list of available tutors. |
Lewis SAY 6-to-6 Program
Lewis offers a 6-to-6 after-school program, separate from Homework Club, for students requiring after-school care. Please do not use Homework Club for babysitting or daycare services.
How do I sign up my child for Homework Club?
There is no formal sign-up process. Students must arrive by 2:20 p.m. and sign in and are required to stay for the full hour.
6-to-6 students must complete a permission slip and submit it to the 6-to-6 program. A representative of 6-to-6 will call the parent to verify their permission for the student to attend Homework Club. The parent does not need to sign the permission slip and does not need to accompany the student to Homework Club.
What should my child bring to Homework Club?
Students should be prepared with an hour's worth of homework, assignments, class work, or teacher-provided handouts so the staff will know how they can help the student. Writing utensils and paper are also the student's responsibility.
Does the Library provide any supplies?
We provide textbooks to be used in the library. We also have colored pencils, glue sticks, markers, letter cutter, and a copier for student use. A student resource box has materials created by the library media teacher and includes MLA bibliography handouts, booklists, graphic organizers, and more. We do not provide pens/pencils, lined paper, Accelerated Math scan sheets, or cardboard presentation boards.
What if the Homework Club is full?
Homework Club is first-come, first-serve. Between 30 and 50 students per day may participate, depending on how many volunteers and teachers are available to help. We aim for a ratio of 10-to-1 (ten students to one adult volunteer or teacher). For security purposes, students cannot be admitted after 2:20 p.m.
Does my child have to attend every day?
No; only when they want help on specific assignments.
Who are the adults volunteering at Homework Club?
Teachers who work on campus support the program, as well as college students from the Circle K program at San Diego State University . All volunteers have cleared TB tests and have received volunteer training at Lewis Middle School .
