7th and 8th GRADE PHYSICAL EDUCATION

REQUIRED ITEMS

*PE shirt *PE shorts or sweatpants *Athletic shoes and socks

*Alternate or substiture uniform - extra t-shirt and shorts or sweatpants. This can be any color and can be worn on days that a student forgets their uniform.

*Master combination lock - Key locks are not allowed because students lose their keys. There is to be no sharing of locks or PE baskets.

 

PE uniforms may be pruchased in the financial office for $10 for shorts and $6 for shirts. Locks are $4. Clean, used uniforms and used locks are available in the PE office for $2 each. Sweatshirts may be worn on cold days over the PE shirt. No jackets are allowed. Sweatpants are optional. In accordance with the Lewis Honesty Policy, there will be no loaning or borrowing of PE clothes, substitute clothes, sweats, locks or baskets. Clothes which are worn to school may never be worn under, over, or instead of the required uniform. In order to protect our students' belongings, the PE department will write/engrave names on gym clothes and locks. Students are responsible for taking their PE uniform home on Friday, washing it, and bringing it clean on Monday.

 

CITIZENSHIP

Students will begin each grading period with a "G" grade in citizenship. In order to earn an "E" grade, students will need to make extra efforts. These include: always being dressed, vigorous participation daily, turning in homework early, exhibiting good social skills and encouraging others, exemplary attitude and effort, and helping with equipment. Grades will be lowered for: not following class rules, defiance, foul language, gum, unsportsmanlike behavior and arguing with other students or teachers.

 

GRADING POINT SCALE

Students begin the first grading period with 100 points, or and "A" grade.

100 points are added each six weeks for a cumulative semester grade.

1st 7 weeks 2nd 6 weeks Semester

A= 100-85 200-176 300-270

B= 84-70 175-140 269-210

C= 69-60 139-120 209-180

D= 59-50 119-100 179-150

F= 49-0 99-0 149-0

Students will be graded on the following:

Responsibliity - dressing in a proper uniform, attending class, being on time, turning in assignments.

DAILY POINTS ARE DEDUCTED FOR THE FOLLOWING:

RESPONSIBILITY -

Non-suits -5

1/2 suits -3 ( not wearing a portion of the uniform - shorts or shirt)

Substitute clothes -1 each item

Truancy or uncleared absences -5

Absence or medical excuse -5 These points can be made up by turning in homework assignments that will be due once each grading period. Medical excuses must be in the form of a signed note from a parent and is limited to 3 consecutive days. Medical excuses longer than 3 days require a note from a doctor or the school nurse.

Tardy to roll call -3

Not turning in assignments -5 Many of the PE standards and literacy requirements will be met through homework assigned each grading period. Students will gain knowledge through research and written assignments.

 

PARTICIPATION AND EFFORT 1-5 Points

-1 Participating most of the time, not on task entire period

-2 Participating about half of the period

-3 Participating partially, needs more effort

-4 Participating minimally, more effort needed

-5 No participation

 

MEETING STANDARDS 1-5 Points Depending of degree of accomplishment.

 

Students with special needs will be given accommodations. Please see teacher for special arrangements.

Students will be given opportunities to earn extra points by turning in written assignments early and completing a PE math problem of the week.

We hold a strong belief that students need to be active every day. Our goals as educators are to offer students opportunities to move and learn about movement, to play and learn about games, to run and jump and yell and laugh every day.
