Computer Art
This is a one semester, 18 week introductory exploration of art conducted primarily through the use of computers. While natural art talent is desirable for this class, effort, use of software, and application of concepts will guide assessment. Following the standards for grades 5 through 8 students will receive instruction in the following areas:
Objectives
Use computers and art software to create art
Use the internet to explore and research art topics
Become familiar with the vocabulary and language of art
Understand the elements and principles of art design
Gain knowledge of artists, art styles and art history
Become familiar with and use media, methods and techniques
Content Standards:
1. Understanding and applying media, techniques, and processes
2. Using knowledge of structures and functions
3. Choosing and evaluating a range of subject matter, symbols, and ideas
4. Understanding the visual arts in relation to history and cultures
5. Reflecting upon and assessing the characteristics and merits of their work and the work of others
6. Making connections between visual arts and other disciplines
Grading
Since art is such a subjective topic, grades will be based on completion of assignments, understanding and use of software, and demonstration that concepts are understood. Therefore effort, completion of assignments and concept comprehension are critical. Your grade will be determined by the points you earn on your lessons, assignments, projects, and tests. It is very important to keep up with assignments and make up work that is missed. Good attendance is critical. When absent it is the student’s responsibility to find out what was missed and complete it.
The grading scale will be as follows:
90+% = A
80+% = B
70=% = C
60+% = D
below 60% = F
