Be exposed to the internet, search techniques, and email

2.  Computer Art/ Web Design


This is a one semester, 18 week introductory exploration of art conducted primarily through the use of computers. While natural art talent is desirable for this class, effort, use of software, and application of concepts will guide assessment. Following the standards for grades 5 through 8 students will receive instruction in the following areas:

Objectives
Use computers and art software to create art
Use the internet to explore and research art topics
Become familiar with the vocabulary and language of art
Understand the elements and principles of art design
Gain knowledge of artists, art styles and art history
Become familiar with and use media, methods and techniques

 

3.  Social Studies

Performance Standard 6.1.1

The student describes hunter-gatherer societies and their characteristics, including the development of tools and use of fire.

Performance Standard 6.1.2

The student explains how human communities populated the major regions of the world and adapted to a variety of environments.

Performance Standard 6.1.3

The student describes the climatic changes and human modifications of the physical environment that gave rise to the domestication of plants and animals and the increase in the sources of clothing and shelter

Performance Standard 6.2.1

The student locates and describes the physical settings that supported permanent settlement and early civilizations in Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Kush.

Performance Standard 6.2.3

The student explains the relationship between polytheism and the social and political order in Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Kush.

Performance standard 6.2.4

The student describes the legal, technological, artistic, architectural, and written language developments of Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Kush.

Performance Standard 6.2.5

The student describes how commercial and cultural interactions contributed to change in the Tigris-Euphrates and Nile regions.

Performance Standard 6.3.1

The student locates and explains the settlements and movements of Hebrew peoples, including the Exodus and its significance to the Jewish people.

Performance Standard 6.3.2

The student explains the central teachings and practices in the evolution of early Judaism.

Performance Standard 6.3.3

The student explains how the ideas of the Hebrews Traditions are reflected in the moral and ethical traditions of Western civilization.

Performance Standard 6.4.1

The student traces the history of ancient Greek civilization from the rise of Athens through the early Hellenistic period.

Performance Standard 6.4.2

The student identifies the achievements and limitations of the democratic institutions that developed in Athens and other Aegean city-states and contrasts them with the governmental institutions of the military aristocracy of Sparta.

Performance Standard 6.4.3

The student identifies the major cultural achievements of Greek civilization and analyzes its contributions to Western Civilization.

Performance Standard 6.5.1

The student traces the history of ancient Indian civilization from the early civilization in the Indus River Valley through the period of the Mauryan Empire.

Performance Standard 6.5.2

The student explains the religious and cultural developments in India in the era of the Gangetic states and the Mauryan Empire.

Performance Standard 6.6.1

The student identifies the principle features of China's physical geography and analyzes its importance in the subsequent development of ancient China.

Performance Standard 6.6.2

The student explains how China became unified under the early imperial dynasties.

Performance Standard 6.6.3

The student explains the fundamental teachings of Confucianism.

Performance Standard 6.6.4

The student analyzes the political and commercial contributions of the Han dynasty.

Performance Standard 6.7.1

The student maps the location and describes the rise of the Roman Republic, explaining the political, geographic, cultural, and historical reasons for the growth of Roman territories.

Performance Standard 6.7.2

The student describes the government of the Roman Republic, explaining its significance, and analyzes Rome's transition from republic to empire.

Performance Standard 6.7.3

The student describes the origins of Christianity and the political circumstances that resulted in Christianity's becoming a European religion.

Performance Standard 6.7.4

The student describes how the Roman empire fostered economic growth through the use of currency and trade routes.

Performance Standard 6.7.5

The student describes the legacies of Roman art, architecture, technology and science, literature, language, and law.
