The following website addresses of wind and percussion instrument manufacturers
are provided with the hope that you may obtain information about a brand name or
model of instrument you own or may want to own.
I urge you to investigate any brand name for the level of quality of the instrument
you are seeking. A few of these brand names specialize in one or two instruments
and are highly valued, but do a medium to poor job with others. Some manufacturers
make an instrument for every section in the Band, but the quality is not equal from
section to section. No manufacturer has yet produced an excellent quality
instrument for every section in the Band. Care must be given to select a brand name
that specializes in the instrument you are looking for.
I have included a list of recommended instrument brands and models below,
and in the packet of paperwork supplied to your Bandsman at the beginning of the
school year. Please consult this list to obtain a quality instrument suited for the
middle school age student that will last for many years.
Also below, I have listed a few brand names that have come to my
attention in a very negative way. These instruments are of the poorest quality in
design and manufacturing and, while very inexpensive and easy to buy ("cheap"), they
will not last, and perform poorly for your Band member, detracting from their personal Band experience and the overall
quality of the Lewis Middle School Bands. I hope you will elect to rent or purchase
an instrument from the recommended list instead.
