What is Socratic Seminar?

Socratic Seminars are part of both English and History classes at Lewis Middle School.  The Socratic Seminar is an active learning activity whereby students are given an opportunity to engage in high level conversations about complex readings, ideas, and/or contemporary issues in a group setting.  This speaking activity allows students to think critically, analyze multiple meanings in text, and express ideas with clarity and confidence.  This dialogue also reinforces appropriate behaviors and promotes team building.  For more information please visit  http://www.socraticseminars.com/education/whatare.html
