Dear Parents and Guardians,
LewisMiddle School is continuing the “Three Strikes You’re Out” policy this year to increase academic success among our student population.The policy is designed to increase parent involvement and student accountability.Students who show up in a specific class for a third time without their homework will be sent to the office.On the third “strike” of not being prepared for class, the student will be assisted by the school administrators, counselors or office staff in calling their parents.Students will then inform their parents of their recurring mistake with a commitment to improve.We are asking for your support in assisting the students in getting their work done for the next day so that they come to class prepared for success.If a student continues to fail to turn in his/her homework, the student may be expected to attend lunch detention, after-school detention, SaturdaySchooletc. depending on the individual circumstances.Phone calls home from our “Three Strikes” policy will start immediately.
Please know that our reduced office staff will not be available for further conversation with parents.Parents are encouraged to contact classroom teachers via phone or e-mail for further assistance or questions.
The transition to high school can be challenging and sometimes overwhelming.Homework completion, excellent attendance, appropriate study habits, useful organizational skills and ample time spent studying are key ingredients to academic success.We will continue to work hard to ease the transition to high school and with your support and cooperation, we trust that the results will be very positive.We also hope that this program will be a support to the classroom teachers and open the lines of communication between the school and home environment.Putting forth the effort as a unified team of teachers, support staff and parents will help our students thrive as they prepare for their high school experience.
La Escuela Intermedia Lewis continua implementando la política “Tres Strikes y Estas Fuera”para aumentar el éxito académico de nuestros alumnos. La política está diseñada para aumentar la participación de padres y responsabilidad estudiantil. Los alumnos que no traigan la tarea a su clase por tercera vez serán enviados a la oficina. En el tercer “strike” de no estar preparado para la clase, los administradores, consejeros, o empleados de la oficina ayudarán al alumno a hacer una llamada a sus padres.Los alumnos entonces les informarán a sus padres del error que siguen cometiendo y su compromiso a mejorar. Les pedimos que nos apoyen al ayudar a los alumnos a terminar su trabajo del día siguiente para que vengan preparados para tener éxito en su clase. Si un alumno continúa no entregando su tarea, el alumno tendrá que asistir a detención a la hora del almuerzo, después del día escolar, o a la Escuela del Sábado, etc. dependiendo en las circunstancias individuales. Las llamadas telefónicas al hogar debido a la política de “Tres Strikes” comenzarán inmediatamente.
Por favor sepan que los empleados de la oficina que ayudarán a los niños con las llamadas no estarán disponibles para hablar con los padres. Les recomendamos a los padres que se comuniquen con los maestros por teléfono o email para que reciban ayuda.
La transición a la preparatoria puede tener retos y a veces puede ser insoportable. Terminar la tarea, asistencia excelente, hábitos apropiados de estudio, destrezas para organizarse y estudiar lo suficiente son ingredientes claves para el éxito académico. Continuaremos trabajando mucho para facilitar la transición a la preparatoria y con su apoyo y cooperación, confiamos que los resultados serán muy positivos. También esperamos que este programa apoye a los maestros en el aula y facilite la comunicación entre la escuela y el hogar. Siendo un equipo unido de maestros, empleados y padres que pone empeño ayudará a nuestros alumnos a prosperar
mientras se preparan para su experiencia en la preparatoria.
