The Lewis Annual Staff is an elective class designed as a hands-on approach to the world of publications, helping to provide students the necessary school-to-work skills needed to be successful in the work place. Students are responsible to design, photograph, write copy, and layout the entire book. The Lewis yearbook is designed entirely using the latest desk top publishing software and techniques on Macintosh computers.
Lewis has a tradition of producing quality, award winning annuals. In fact, we have won many 1st place blue ribbon at the Del Mar Fair. When students spend money on their yearbook, they expect to receive something that they will be proud of for years to come. This is a very important responsibility put on each student on the staff. Teamwork, creativity, and dedication are essential to producing a top quality yearbook.
The Annual Staff is limited to mostly 8th graders with a few positions open to 7th graders with the intent that they will continue on in the 8th grade as leaders in the class. Interested students need to have good citizenship and academic grades, a positive attitude, and dedication to follow through on their responsibilities.
Students can indicate interest in serving on the annual staff on their scheduling request card each spring. Selection of the annual staff is based on various factors including; grades, citizenship, interview, ethnic, gender, and grade balancing, teacher recommendations, and attitude among other constriants.
Annual Staff would need to be a students first choice for their elective class.
Each student is assigned a number of pages in the yearbook. For their assigned pages, they will be responsible to design the page, take the photographs, write the copy, choose the artwork, and layout the pages on the computer. In addition, students are also involved in promoting and distributing the yearbooks, as well as be involved with making other decisions about the annual. Certain students will have additional responsibilities as editors (see below).
Each year, students within the staff can apply and be choosen as one of the following editor positions. These positions require extra work and responsibility. Generally, the following positions are available;
