Principal's Message
August 2010 Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to Lewis Middle School. We look forward to working closely with all of our students as we prepare them for our expectations of high school and beyond!
Students’ first day of school is Tuesday, September 7, 2010. Students should arrive promptly at 7:00 a.m. to pick up class schedules. 6th graders report to the auditorium and 7th and 8th grade report to our inner lunch court. Regular school hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. (Please do not arrive earlier than
7:00 a.m.)
Orientation for NEW incoming sixth, seventh and eighth grade students will take place Thursday,
September 2, 9:00-11:00 a.m. in our auditorium. Limited bus transportation will be available to our
VEEP students and their families. The schedule will be posted in our website at www.lewis.edu.
P.E. uniforms and Lewis Logo t-shirts may be purchased on August 30, 31 and September 2 from
8:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon in Room 107. Please be aware that on orientation day there is a long wait
to purchase PE clothes and Lewis Logo t-shirts so you may want to purchase these items prior to
the orientation day. P.E. shorts are $10, P.E. shirts are $6, Logo T-shirts are $4, sweatshirts are
$15, hoodies are $25 and visors are $3.
If you just moved in to our neighborhood this summer, you may enroll your children on Thursday August
26, Friday August 27 and Tuesday August 31 from 8 to 11 a.m. List of requirements is posted in our
website, www.lewis.edu.
Our fabulous Lewis Foundation is planning another Welcome Back BBQ on October 8 from 5:30 to 7:00
p.m. in our lunch quad. Please mark your calendar and bring the family to this casual and fun event!
One of Lewis Middle School’s outstanding features is our Library and MacLab where students are
welcome to read, research, and use our computers. Students may come to our Library/MacLab before
and after school and during lunch. All students new to Lewis will receive a Library/MacLab orientation in
October. Be on the lookout for our Cash for Computers campaign to complete phase II of our new lab.
Lewis always welcomes and needs your help in a variety of ways throughout the year. At this time,
parent volunteers are critically needed in the library and to assist in the main office. Please also consider
becoming a board member in our Foundation. Please call the school office at (619) 583-3233 extension
2219, if you would like to volunteer.
Students will be issued textbooks during the first several weeks of school. Students are required to cover
their books. Since the average cost of a textbook is over $50.00, students are responsible for all
textbooks checked out to them. Students who lose textbooks must pay for them at the end of the school
year.
And finally, To all my super students: I’m sure you’re getting tired of staying up late and sleeping in
(not!). Please make the gradual move this week of getting to bed and waking up earlier so you are ready
to return to our early start routines. I pledge to you that, we here at Lewis, will do everything in our power
to make Lewis a school that you want to be a part of.
Ms. Patton and Mr. Brock, along with all of our wonderful staff look forward to another successful year
together. Please visit our website at: www.lewis.edu today for more details and information!
Sincerely,
Brad Callahan
Principal
